Curator's Notes
Coffee Manufactory is best known as the coffee roaster for the world-renowned, and highly-acclaimed, Tartine Bakery. As the coffee provider to all Tartine Bakeries, spanning from San Francisco to Seoul, Coffee Manufactory emphasizes sweetness and balance above all else.
Coffee Manufactory started in 2016 by industry veterans, with a huge task in front of them: to source and roast the best coffee that would pair with the breads and pastries from their James Beard Award winning bakery team. Their strategy? To maintain direct relationships with their coffee producers and hold a firm, transparent commitment to sustainability in the coffee industry. There’s no past-crop, subpar coffee hiding within these blends!
We’re thrilled to feature many of Coffee Manufactory’s offerings, beginning with 02 Filter, a blend that balances pleasant fruit forward acidity with delicate notes of Assam black tea and sweet dried fig. By showcasing Coffee Manufactory here at Bean Box, we hope to shine a well-deserved spotlight on their fantastic coffees and transparent sourcing practices. We’ll continue to bring on additional coffees, ranging from Colombia to Burundi.
Additionally, we value Coffee Manufactory’s mission statement and views of coffee supply transparency: Coffee Manufactory works with research partners at SCS Global, University of Michigan, and MIT Solve, to ensure transparency throughout their supply chains and share that information with partners and colleagues.
From the Roaster
Coffee Manufactory was born from a conversation about what we dream to be possible in coffee. We are committed to producer empowerment, transparency, and supply chain equity. Our coffees are Cloud Roasted™ - our sustainably sourced beans are enveloped in a controlled, gas-fired vortex. This creates cleaner and gentler uniform roasting, produces intensified aromatics and smoother flavors, and beats the traditional drum roasting process. Our Coffee Manufactory Lion references a statue in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – the birthplace of coffee. We love the complexity of Ethiopian coffee and think Ethiopia has some of the highest quality coffee producers out there. The lion is proud, humble, regal, and respected. We are committed to bringing greater attention to our partners in regions around the world, using iconography of regional markers to highlight producers.
