Curator’s Notes: It’s back!!! It’s hard to believe we’ve carried this coffee for 9 years straight. And it never fails to impress me: every year, Kuma just nails the taste of the holidays with this festive coffee. Bear Claus is a 50/50 mix of chocolate-forward Guatemalan beans and a fruit-forward Kenya Nyeri, for a rich, welcoming cup. I taste sparkling apple cider, pomegranate juice, and fig preserves, within a big, lush body of rich, smooth chocolate. A warm cinnamon spice lingers in the finish, for a touch of festive holiday cheer. No matter what your favorite nostalgic holiday flavor might be, you’ll taste it here — think hot chocolate, figgy pudding, cinnamon-dusted apple pie, sparkling-sweet ribbon candy… it’ll have you feeling warm, happy, and ready to wrap all those presents.

One of those true Seattle coffee gems, Kuma has been roasting their coveted coffees since 2007, growing from a local farmers’ market favorite to a beloved local institution. Fun fact, Kuma’s little cafe (it doesn’t exist anymore!) used to be down the street from my very first apartment in Seattle. I didn’t have a lot of extra money back then, but when I could, I’d walk over and splurge on a bag for myself. They were my very first introduction to specialty coffee, and I never went back!
