Tastes Like: Black Cherry, Lime, Milk Chocolate

Curator’s Notes: Because of their bright flavors and soft, creamy mouthfeel, I like to think of Costa Rican coffees as the “salt water taffy” of the coffee world, and Hermanos Robles is no exception. When you first brew it, you’ll get a nice fruity aroma, and a piquant sweetness like cherry candy, a little red apple, a little lime zest (cosmo cocktail, anyone?). Body like marshmallow fluff, super soft and creamy. But the best part is, as it cools, all those rich chocolate flavors emerge, and you get a mouthful of straight chocolate milkshake flavor. It’s ABSURD just how creamy this coffee is. And since it’s still 70+ degrees here, I’m already planning to make a big batch into cold brew. As you may know, the mark of a great coffee is how it evolves, changes, and deepens in flavor as it cools. Costa Rica Hermanos Robles illustrates this phenomenon perfectly. And fun fact, the farm where this coffee was grown was one of the first specialty micro-mills in Costa Rica! If you prefer lighter roasts, but also love coffees with chocolate notes, I highly recommend grabbing this one while it’s still around.

Bottom Line: You’ll love this coffee if you love chocolate milkshakes, pink-colored salt water taffy, or lighter roasted single origins with softer, more restrained acidity.
